The secondary villian of the game gets like 2 lines, is poorly revealed and just dies, the gearboy from the 2nd episode gives more info about the cult members than the actual cult hideout and it is so shameful. Personally since the 4th episode I wanted to get into that church and read some notes, talk to some ghosts, you get 2 notes, 1 room. We get very little lore in the church, the hide out of the cult, no cult motivations except the generic, no rooms to explore except one. Secondly, we are at the culmination of the story, and when we get to the part that is supposed to explain the most lore wise we get cryptic junk from an ancillary character. First half of the episode was combat or stealth mini games, which they had never done before and introduced into the final episode was so frustrating because I specifically enjoyed this for the lack of time wasting mechanics to make up for lack of story. But the 5th episode was honestly awful for so many reasons. Mechanically the second episode switching to two people was trying but it did not ruin it. But the suicide after spending so much time building up this brotherly relationship and then not offering an explanation, like "Hey, I did it cause I was brainwashed" or an apology or even a conversation is just lazy writing. Then there was the lack of conversation about it afterwards, I understand that it is entirely possible that this is intentional to have some sort of surprise in the sequel and maybe he did not kill himself, as Sal did not find a body. Killing off Larry was lazy to me, why did he kill himself? He was moving out, he could have confided in Sal, he could have never returned to the apartments, there were options. The feeling playing the first 3 chapters was unparalleled, everything meshed so well and I loved the macabre ghost theme, but then they introduced the alien dimension hopping, which could have fit to their credit, but their execution did not. Now the creators are free to end their story as they see fit, but I had several issues with the way that the last two episodes were delivered that upset me deeply I honestly wished I never played the game. My problem is with the story and the rushed feeling of the last two episodes. The game had no problems for me performance wise, just to get that out of the way. It truly pains me to write this review because the first 3 episodes are amazing beyond words. This could be fixed with a simple caption, and with the dev response, it shows that they are ignoring this point of my review completely in order to focus on a pedantic definition of subtitling. This is a problem, and the issue of my review was not completely being marked as subtitled, but rather zero support for a puzzle that is uncompleteable without hearing it, allowing everyone except deaf players/players playing without audio to continue. However, there appears to still be no support for deaf players, and the game leads you up near to the end, leaving deaf players unable to continue just before the finale of the story. I understand the difference between captions and subtitles, and I do recognize that this point in my review can be seen as null now. Don't mark your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game on steam as having full subtitles when it obviously doesn't, and the only people left unable to complete are the ones tricked into thinking it could be completed without audio. The puzzle involves matching up a radio and a TV to static, as I found this out by looking at a guide, and after trying to complete this puzzle deaf, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. I am deaf and completely unable to progress. Great game, EXCEPT there is a puzzle in the final chapter that is audio-only based, with zero captions.
